About amanda gordon - counsellor

Hi, I’m Amanda Gordon.

I work with adults who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward in life. My role as a counsellor is to provide a supportive and reflective space where you can explore what is happening in your life and begin developing clarity, confidence, and meaningful change.

Many people come to counselling during times of uncertainty, transition, or emotional challenge. My aim is to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported as you explore the questions life may be presenting.

For me, counselling often begins with a simple but powerful idea: sometimes the most important step forward is to pause and ask the deeper questions that life brings.

My Counselling Philosophy

I believe counselling should feel both authentic and useful.

My work is grounded in the belief that people are not broken. Often, they are navigating complex experiences, losses, relationships, emotions, and transitions that require space for reflection, understanding, and care.

I offer counselling that is compassionate, thoughtful, and practical. My approach combines Person-Centred Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, creating a supportive environment where you can explore your experiences while also identifying meaningful ways forward.

A key part of my work is the PAUSE framework, which supports clients to slow down, acknowledge what they are feeling, understand the patterns and experiences that may be shaping their lives, gently shift perspective, and engage with life in a more grounded and intentional way.

Through this process, counselling becomes both a space for reflection and a pathway toward meaningful change.

My Background

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years working in education as a teacher, learning mentor, and education welfare officer.

Through these roles, I supported people navigating a wide range of challenges, including stress, family difficulties, emotional wellbeing, change, identity, belonging, and life transitions. This experience gave me valuable insight into how relationships, environments, and life circumstances can influence mental and emotional health.

This background continues to inform my counselling work today. It helps me bring compassion, curiosity, and practical understanding to the work I do with clients.

How I Can Support You

People often come to counselling when they are experiencing:

  • grief, loss, or bereavement

  • family estrangement or relationship loss

  • anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm

  • life transitions, change, or uncertainty

  • feeling stuck or unsure about their direction

  • a desire for personal growth and self-understanding

Counselling provides a space to explore these experiences with curiosity, openness, and support.

Sessions move at your pace and focus on what feels most important to you. You do not need to have everything worked out before beginning. Sometimes counselling simply begins with having a safe place to say what has been difficult to carry alone.

Beyond The Therapy Room

When I’m not working, I enjoy creative and grounding activities that help me stay connected to myself and the world around me.

I enjoy peaceful walks in the park with my dog, Beattie, as well as spending time gardening. These quiet moments in nature allow me to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what feels steady and meaningful.

Yoga is also a regular part of my routine, offering balance and mindfulness while strengthening the connection between body and mind.

I have a long-standing passion for art and craft. Painting expressive landscapes and creating handmade pieces allows me to explore creativity and enjoy the meditative process of shaping something from raw materials.

These activities support my own wellbeing and reflect the values I bring into my counselling work — presence, creativity, reflection, compassion, and balance.

Book a Session

If you feel ready to explore counselling, you are welcome to book a session.

You do not need to have the right words or a clear starting point. Sometimes the first step is simply giving yourself the space to pause, reflect, and begin making sense of what is happening in your life.

Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible”.
